KM Staffing, Recruiting & Training

KM Staffing, Recruiting & Training

The value of any initiative or process is heavily impacted by the quality, training and experience of the people who are responsible for creating and managing it. Therefore, a leader of a mission-critical initiative would not be expected to take staffing lightly. Rather, that leader would be expected to seek out the most qualified and experienced individuals available. This is particularly true for Knowledge Management initiatives.

In the past, when companies were technically managing their knowledge, the people helping to implement those processes could only be defined as “de facto” knowledge managers. Their official responsibilities mostly lied elsewhere — Information Systems, Human Resources, or Corporate Librarians. Until recently, no one even had the word “knowledge” in their job titles. While vague boundaries surrounding these functions did not prevent organizations and individuals from managing their knowledge, the absence of a clearly defined “knowledge” profession with its own infrastructure meant that this emerging field lacked some of the elements that help sustain other disciplines, such as:

► Accepted body of knowledge or content related to roles and responsibilities within the field
► Specifically defined standards and processes
► Readily available opportunities to interact with other professionals
► Easily shared knowledge about the field

Therefore, if Knowledge Management has now become a profession, what are the job descriptions that should guide people’s endeavors? What kinds of backgrounds should qualified applicants have? Vitesse Solutions has the deep understanding of the skills required for this profession and what it takes to be a good Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO), Knowledge Manager, Taxonomist, KM Consultant or Technical KM Specialist. Many of the necessary KM skills sought after today were actually developed by Vitesse experts in previous jobs. We provide support to organizations in all aspects of Knowledge Management resourcing:
  • Recruiting the CKO and other KM staff;
  • Drafting their full job description and providing input to their performance criteria
  • Delivering various types of online, remote or hands-on training for individuals and groups;
  • Providing qualified temporary or even permanent staffing for specific KM projects.
